1. Explain the meaning of “a learning moment”. Why does the author say he experienced two learning moments that day?

The author only regarded the green banana as a kind fruit not ripe for eat.  He found the green banana’s special value suddenly.

The author had just experienced two of them at once ,the green banana and the center of the world.This chance enconnter showed me the special genius of those people ,and the special potential of  the green banana.That rock marks the center of the world.

2. What new meaning does the author give to “the green banana” and “the center of the world”? What conclusion does he draw about them?

The author’s  meaning is that a green banana is waiting for all of us who leave our own centers of the world in order to experience other place. The center of the world of the villagers was a symbol of cultural difference.It symbolized a cultural terrain not yet known to us .

In this text the author wants to point out that all people see the world through their own cultural beliefs.
